I finally moved house. My new house has a big backyard and the best thing is it is right on the river. It is such a cool house. I was happier than ever. For weeks I went down to the bush. I remember every day watching the water go up. Sometimes it went up a metre a day, but I never thought much of it. Not once did I think my house would flood.
Days passed and the water got higher and higher. It was getting really close to my house. The next day we were told we had to evacuate. My dad stayed at home while we moved to Moama. We stayed at our friend's house so we would be safe and they could look after us. Even though I was so nervous and scared, I stayed positive next to my family.
A day passed and we got the worst news yet... the water was going to go up an extra metre. The town went into panic mode. Shops were stripped bare and to save thousands of houses, the SES built a giant levy. Sadly, my house was on the wrong side of the levy. We were grateful most houses would be saved, but probably not ours. The water came up really, really fast. Up, up, up the water came. We had done everything we could to save our house, now we had to just wait.
A day later my dad, Ned and I went to fill sandbags. We did all we could to save our house and now we wanted to help others. We spent hours sandbagging just like other people did, all playing their part in the community. Hundreds of sand bags were filled thanks to the locals. After that we went home. The water splashed into my gum boots. Splish, splosh, splash... splish, splosh, splash... I got to the driveway and now the water had started to creep up towards the front door step. I was so surprised that it was at my doorstep because when we left it was not even in our driveway. We saw dead animals everywhere and it stunk. It took half an hour to get into our house, when usually it would usually take us a minute.
With all the stuff going on, I wish it never flooded. I hate how all the animals are dying and we can't help. I hope after the flood passes the shire builds a levy behind all the houses in the bush. I also hope it never floods again so people don't have to deal with losing all of the things you love.
Right now it is the 4th November, 2022. We moved back home and because of the levy breaking in Undeera, we got lucky and no water got into our house. The water is expected to get higher but I hope it doesn't because I don't want to leave again.
